2015 Round-Up and January Bucket List

I’m not a person who can commit on the long-term to something that doesn’t really, truly interest me. I’m more the type of person who embraces change and actually needs it. If I decide to start a new hobby or commit to something new, you’ll find me losing interest more often than not. On the other hand, some things and people remain in my life forever. Moments I love become habits I foster over time, and I make it a point to keep loved ones happy. I’ve mentioned before that this blog is a true passion and that it reveals aspects of myself that even I hadn’t discovered. In 2015, it has brought me a lot. Not only did I see that what I write is appreciated (check out Breadonbutter as the number 8 most influential blog in Lebanon!), but I also challenged myself through it. Through my monthly bucket lists, I was able to set small goals that led to achieving bigger ones. It was a pleasure writing each and every one of these lists. You can check them all here.

To start 2016 properly, I wanted to remember my favorite things about 2015 before writing the first bucket list of the year, so here goes:

  • Trip to Paris, London and the Lake District
  • Attending Food Blogger Connect 2015, meeting great people and tuning in to amazing talks by inspiring people.
  • Reading lots of books
  • Watching loads of movies
  • Collaborating with fellow bloggers who became dear friends
  • Exploring Lebanon
  • The Whole 30 challenge which led me to replace bad eating habits with healthier ones
  • Volunteering for the AUB Cookbook that is to be launched in June of 2016
  • Trying out new recipes that I usually found impossible to make (like this ramen)
  • Discovering lots of new ingredients and products
  • Meeting a lot of inspiring people
  • Cooking with Bibayti
  • Moving houses!

There are so many more things and the above are just highlights of last year. Moving on to the present and near future, say hello to the first list of the year 😉

Breadonbutter’s January Bucket List

  • Get fit again
  • Plan our next trip
  • Continue online photography courses
  • Start planting on our balcony
  • Host lots of cocktail parties
  • Sleep early at least 4 days of the week
  • Go hiking somewhere new
  • Finish the book I’m currently reading (All The Light We Cannot See), which is a must-read
  • Have cook-offs at home with friends who love cooking
  • Watch old classic movies like Casablanca and Psycho
  • Have lots of nights in with the Sherlock series and a nice bowl of homemade popcorn

November & December Bucket List

I owe an apology to all of you who have been loyally reading my bucket lists during 2015. I have been swamped with work, the new house and social situations. BUT! I’ve decided to compile the last two bucket lists of the year into one, thus ending the year in beauty, ambition and organized partying. Here goes. For the last two months of 2015, I want to:

1) Start honing my “patisserie” skills by applying what I learnt in an amazing workshop with Jean-Michel Perruchon. There are no words to describe how much I was in awe for 4 hours straight. Thank you so much Polygel Homebaker for the opportunity!

2) Entertain as many guests I can in the new house during the Holidays.

3) Finally get great Christmas tree decorations and make my very first own tree ever!

4) Learn something new and valuable. I will surely let you know what it was 😉

5) Eat healthy 85% of the time, even during the Holidays – yes, I prefer feeling lighter than indulging 24/7.

6) Hike in two new places I’ve never hiked in.

7) Prepare a killer Christmas menu – this year, we’ll be hosting Christmas Eve.

8) Count all of my blessings every morning and every night.

9) Start a new series – torn between Sherlock and Homeland.

10) Bring you a new kind of fresh content – stay tuned, it’s going to be awesome!

How about you people? What are your plans for the end of 2015?

October Bucket List

 october | breadonbutter

A few days ago, someone asked me if I was able to achieve all of the items on my bucket list. My only reply was that I try. Coincidentally, I saw a quote today that said: “no matter what you do today, let it be enough”. It is true that we put too much pressure on ourselves to always achieve more than what we have already done. We never let it be enough. While I make lists of things to achieve, I always pay attention to not putting too much pressure on myself and not bring mysef down if I don’t check them all off the list.

October Bucket List

1) The new house is almost ready! I plan on making at least a DIY project like old times.

2) Choose my next travel destination wisely.

3) Write more. To do that, I organized all the tools I need to make it easy on myself. More on that later.

4) Work harder towards my business goals. I’ll need to set a clear plan for that soon.

5) Start baking again.

6) Learn more about coffee brewing.

7) Make sushi at home.

8) Practice what I learnt the past month at Food Blogger Connect and on all the online courses I took.

9) Plan and organize myself better.

I won’t add infinite stuff on my list, but I’ll focus on achieving those first!

What are your goals this month?

July Bucket List

Today is the 1rst of July and I’m still wondering how Christmas has come and gone. Time does fly, which puts pressure on our goals and the means we use to achieve them. The last week of June has been life-changing career-wise and even though I’m not one to regret any decision I make, I hope I took a sound one. I’ve embarked on a new adventure hoping that it will be a huge step towards my ultimate goal. I’ll elaborate more one day, but for now, all I want is to share a new bucket list.

June’s felt like a year rather than a month. Summer is definitely on with bbqs and long summer days. I started my Whole 30 challenge, which has been quite a ride until now (you can read about it here and here). We had the chance to meet Michelin-starred Chef Greg Malouf (read more about him here), and we discovered new recipes and ingredients. I also worked a lot on my photography skills, which made me happy, and last but not least, we’ve been watching a whole lot of sunsets.

Breadonbutter’s July Bucket List

  1.  Work hard, even though it’s July, a month that screams vacation
  2. Read more instead of watching TV and scrolling down my phone
  3. Cook more without giving excuses – I know I’ve been short on recipes lately and I promise to make it up
  4. Finish my Whole 30 and reintroduce various food groups while controlling my cravings – it has been hard sometimes, I must admit
  5. Watch at least one old movie – because I love old movies and I think they enrich our souls. My favorites are Cinema Paradiso, La Vita e Bella, Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Louis de Funes’ Pouic Pouic
  6. Discover a new place in Lebanon
  7. Bake more cakes
  8. Be more organized
  9. Run more often
  10. Discover new music
  11. Eat at 2 new restaurants
