Healthy Lactose-Free Chocolate Smoothie Mousse

In one of this year’s bucket lists, I vowed to find new ingredients and twist recipes around. Since then, I’ve discovered new types of flour, milk, butter and oil, all of them healthier than one another. I’ve replaced the traditional ingredients I usually use in cakes and snacks with these recently discovered healthy options, and it hasn’t made any difference in taste whatsoever. Plus my pants are a little looser (!).

Yesterday, as you might’ve seen on Instagram, my sister (who’s visiting) begged me to make a version of a smoothie she saw on the net. Since it was improvised, I had to make do with the ingredients we had at home. It turned out delicious and with a mousse-like texture. Here’s the recipe to what I now call a chocolate smoothie mousse.

Lactose-Free Chocolate Smoothie Mousse Recipe

What you’ll need:

  • 1.5 Tbsp almond oil
  • 2 Tbsp raw cocoa powder
  • 1.5 Tbsp chia seeds
  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 1 whole mango (or any other fruit of your preference)

How to make it:

– In a blender, place all of the ingredients and mix until everything is combined and you get a mousse-like texture.

Enjoy with any fruit in season (what we had at home was strawberries and bananas). You can also add oat flakes on top.

The Smoothie Series: Blueberry and Peanut Butter Smoothie

Smoothies are increasingly becoming my go-to afternoon snack when I get the munchies for many things at once. Today, I was craving something sweet, something fruity and something milky. That’s when I decided to put them all together and add something extra healthy (ginger) along with the mix. All of the ingredients I used are healthy fats and I guarantee 100% satisfaction after it.

What you’ll need (for 1 person):

– A handful of Almonds

– 100 grams of Blueberries

– 1 pot of plain Yogurt

– 1 tablespoon of Peanut Butter

– 1 small slice of ginger (optional and only if you really love ginger)

1) Layer all of the ingredients in a mixer and blend. Enjoy it as a breakfast or as an afternoon snack!

The Smoothie Series: Mulberry Smoothie With Ginger and Kiwi

That’s right! A new series has just begun on Breadonbutter: The Smoothie Series 🙂

It’s becoming the drink to have and the healthy pick-me-up snack. It’s called a smoothie because the blender basically does the work for you (smoothly 😉 and quickly). All you have to do is choose your fruits and other accompaniments, toss them in a blender and mix them all together with some ice.

For this first smoothie, I’ll be presenting a fresh one, for hot summer afternoons or for early summer mornings before jumping into a busy bee day. It’s full of vitamins and in-season fruits (such as delicious blackberries)

What you’ll need (for 2 medium-sized smoothies):

– 3 kiwis (cut in big bits)

– 1 banana (sliced)

– 125 g plain yogurt (Activia was used in this recipe)

– 3 Mulberries (make sure you don’t add more as their taste is too strong and tends to cover the other ingredients’ taste)

– 2 teaspoons Honey

– 2 tablespoons fresh Ginger (diced)

– Ice cubes or already crushed ice

Toss all of the ingredients in a blender and mix. Then add ice cubes (if using) and mix again and that’s IT!
