5 Pizza Toppings With A Twist For A Fun Night With Friends

As you grow older, get married and start having responsibilities, your lifestyle slowly changes. For example, when you have kids like some of our friends do, you go out less and have to make do with staying at home more often. You then start honing some of your skills, like cooking and DIY projects, and when you’re lucky enough to find friends who share the same passions and hobbies, you hone those skills and experiment together. Instead of going out for pizza or crazy wings night, you go ahead and buy that bread-maker and start having your own “crazy” pizza nights at home.

That’s exactly what we did last week over at Khater and Lea’s house (you can check Khater’s previous guest recipes for fig jam and brie crispy shells on this link and for lemony chicken on this link). Using a Moulinex bread-maker, Khater made the pizza dough (ingredients below) and we had fun with different toppings. So here are some toppings ideas, with a twist, for your pizza night.

First, make the dough.

Pizza Toppings Ideas

What you’ll need:

  • 800 g flour (20% of which can be corn flour as it gives the dough a crunch)
  • 450 ml water
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp sugar (for the browning of the crust)
  • 5 Tbsp olive oil
  • 3 tsp yeast

First steps:

  1. Pre-heat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius.
  2. Flatten parts of the dough with a rolling pin to the size you prefer and prepare it for toppings.

If you’re not using a bread-maker, you can refer to this post to read about making a dough from scratch.

Pizza toppings ideas:

Pizza Toppings Ideas

1) Vegetarian

Top one pizza with tomato sauce, green pepper, black olives, corn, mushrooms and block mozzarella cheese. Place in the oven until the crust is lightly golden and the cheese has melted.

2) Brie and Rosemary leaves

Pizza Toppings Ideas

Top the dough with brie cheese and rosemary leaves. Top with olive oil and salt then place in the oven until the crust is lightly golden and the cheese has melted.

3) Zaatar (thyme) and Feta Cheese with pepper

Pizza Toppings Ideas

Top the pizza dough with fresh thyme leaves, feta cheese and black pepper. Place in the oven until the crust is lightly golden and the cheese has melted.

4) Eggs and chorizo

Pizza Toppings Ideas

Before topping the dough with the ingredients, fold its corners to prevent the eggs from overflowing.

In a bowl, break 3 eggs and whip them with a fork. Place the chorizo on the dough and top it with the eggs.

Place it in the oven until the crust is lightly golden and the eggs are cooked.

5) Proscuitto (parma ham), mozzarella and pesto sauce

Pizza Toppings Ideas

Top the pizza dough with all of the ingredients and bake in the oven until the crust is lightly golden and the cheese has melted.

And there you have it! A trouble-free and fun pizza night! Thank you Khater! 🙂

Welcome Spring: The Ultimate Checklist For The Perfect BBQ

Last Saturday was really fantastic. The weather was wonderful and we all headed outside the city to Batroun for a fun BBQ in the sun. We were a whole bunch of people (including Maya from Playing With Fashion and her husband) and everyone was happy and excited. The goal was to get there a bit late and to start eating around 3 pm to then enjoy the beautiful sunset. By 1 pm, everything was set: a ping pong table and darts game, drinks, and music.  All that was left was for people to get there so that the grilling could start.

A BBQ can be manageable and trouble-free. You just need to be really organized and keep things uncomplicated. To make things easier on you, here’s a checklist you can use if you’re looking to have some fun with friends around a grill.

Breadonbutter’s Ultimate BBQ Checklist

1- The Material

When you’re hosting a BBQ, no matter its size, you want to be able to have fun with your guests and not end up cleaning for hours afterwards. To do that, it’s all in the material you get. Since a BBQ is always outdoor and very casual and laid-back, you can easily go plastic: plastic plates, plastic cutlery, plastic cups. No one will judge and you’ll be way more relaxed as nothing will break and everything goes in a huge garbage bag at the end of the day. Of course, skewers are essential and a nice BBQ toolkit would be a great plus. Jean got this one at Christmas from his little brother (the most useful gift ever). For those who will be actually grilling the meat (thank you Gigi and Marwan 😉 ), make sure you have a handy enough grill or grills for that matter. If you’re planning a big party, make sure you have enough space to grill enough food for everyone and not keep them waiting.

2- The Food

If you usually prepare food for friends and family, you should know by now that not everyone eats everything. Some don’t eat meat, some hate chicken and some can’t even get near the smell of seafood. You’ll even have those friends who’ve just turned vegetarian on you! So be prepared for everything and be ready to satisfy all of your guests. What we had on Saturday:

– Two kinds of marinated chicken wings and drumsticks (recipes soon)

Kafta (Kebabs) sandwiches

– Shrimps

– Calamari

– Mini burgers

– Eggplant and Zucchini skewers (just cut them in cubes and get them ready for grilling)

– Potato skewers

– Accompaniments: bread, ketchup, mustard, mayo, tabasco

3- The Drinks

Aside from soft drinks, water and beer, I suggest you make two yummy punches your guests can start with as soon as they arrive. On Saturday, we made a nice Sangria (recipe here) the night before and a non-alcoholic punch for those who wanted something fresh but didn’t want alcohol (recipe soon). Jean also became really popular with his delicious Gin Basil drink (recipe soon as well!)

4- The Music

A nice playlist with various types of music is an absolute must! Having no electricty plug is no excuse nowadays as a laptop or speaker is enough. Stay tuned for a BBQ playlist 🙂

You can use the checklist below if you’re hosting a BBQ soon!

So go out there, get in the sun, play some music and hang out with your dearest friends. That’s how life should be. 🙂

Party With Kale Crisps

It’s of general opinion during this time of year that food we love and usually eat moderately shall be eaten in excess and irrationally. A few days ago, a group messaging conversation was created amongst our group of friends to discuss the New Year’s Eve menu. Nothing healthy is really included so this made us think about ideas for healthier party foods. Since kale is now available (all year round) in Lebanon and is considered one of the top Superfoods to make you live longer (click here for all 7), Kale Crisps seem like a tasty option.

The Kale Crisps recipe is really easy. All you need is:

How to make it:

  1. Cut the kale into small chunks (the size of crisps)
  2. In a bowl, mix the almond butter and peanut oil
  3. Dip each kale crisp in the bowl, then place them on a baking sheet

  1. Place in the oven for 7 minutes or until dry

And serve!

Kale is one of the healthiest vegetables you can find as it holds a lot of benefits. To name a few, it’s full of fibers, antioxidants and calcium, protecting you from cancer, weight problems and osteoporosis.

Are you a fan of kale? If so, how do you eat it?

6 Lip-Smacking Party Food Recipes In Under 10 Minutes

During the Holidays, those of us who love to cook are always in need of menu inspiration for the parties we throw for friends and family. With time, I have found that simple and quick party food is the most successful to make when all you want to do is join the crowd and enjoy your time. I learned this the hard way when I saw that when we host gatherings at home, there’s always one of us stuck in the kitchen while the other one’s busy entertaining our guests. The Ingredient That Will Make Your Cheese and Wine Complete

If you’re a fan of entertaining, you must spend a big part of your winter planning cheese and wine parties. You have a checklist with the different wines you want to get, the different cheeses you want to try out and that bread from the best bakery in town (you can check out the best wine and food pairings here). You think you have everything but when your guests arrive you realize something is missing: good music that suits this warm and welcoming party!

A big part of entertaining is the atmosphere and general mood you set to your living and dining rooms. Along with many other elements like candles, lighting and overall décor, nice music is a must when you’re looking to create a fun and engaging atmosphere in which everyone is happy and at ease. Make Your Own Halloween Drink: Pumpkin Squash and Bourbon

This Halloween weekend is packed with house parties, bar hopping and other fun things! In case you’re hosting a Halloween party and you’re looking for ideas for that bar you have in the corner of your living space, here’s a great idea for a drink. If you’re going to a party hosted by someone else, why not take this Jim Beam Honey Bourbon bottle with you and add it to that pumpkin squash?

The recipe is pretty easy. Here’s what you’ll need (for 1 person):

  • 1 cup of a pumpkin’s interior, cut into cubes
  • 1 scoop of vanilla ice cream
  • A dash of cinnamon powder
  • A dash of ginger powder
  • 1 to 2 shots (depending on your alcohol preferences and tolerance) of Jim Beam Honey Bourbon

How to make this drink is really a one-step thing. Just place all of the ingredients in a processor bowl or cup, crush until combined and enjoy!

Have a spooky weekend!

P.S.: What/Who are you dressing up as, by the by? 😀

Cocktail-Style Birthday Party

If you ask me to tell you what is one of my favorite things in life, I’ll tell you birthdays. I really really love them. Not just mine, but also (and especially!) birthdays of loved ones. The feeling you get when you buy a gift you just know they’ll love, anticipating giving it to them, ordering or making them a cake with funky candles on top. All that is just so exciting! I even love planning the whole thing, especially if it’s a huge surprise party where you have to scheme so that they won’t know and then work with people to get them all in one place, in the dark, at the specific time the birthday boy or girl comes in.

HAPPY birthday

Moving on, I’m presenting you here with a few inspirational pictures and ideas in case you’re planning a birthday party soon.

First, it’s all about a bit of decoration. So candles for some cozy lighting effect – you can even make your own (here)

A bar corner with beautiful cocktails and punches

Finger food (it’s a cocktail-style birthday party)

Desserts, of course

And last but not least, the cake with funky candles on top. Another cake inspiration can be found here (my 27th birthday last year) and here (chocolate birthday cake)

Oh and don’t forget the music! 😉

I’ll be posting more birthday party inspirations and finger food recipes with time so stay tuned!
